More than 20,000 Sydneysiders have gathered at Bondi Beach exactly a week after two gunmen, targeting Jews celebrating the first night of Hanukkah, shot dead 15 people.
NSW Premier Chris Minns was cheered by the crowd during his speech while Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who has been criticised for inaction on antisemitism, was booed at the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies organised event ‘Light Over Darkness’, which was held last night at 6:47pm, the time the massacre started.
The state government had designated Sunday as a Day of Reflection, calling for Australians around the country to light a candle in honour of the lives lost.
