Georgia Vaughan investigates how Armidale Secondary College is giving Ezidi refugees a second chance at an education.

In 2017, Armidale was identified as one of four regional towns to become the new home for Ezidi refugees.

It was after escaping mass genocide in their communities in Northern Iraq and imprisonment by ISIS, that Ezidi families sought refuge in Australia.

Now, Armidale Secondary College is providing refugee students a second chance at an education – and a normal childhood.

At first the school had just two students in its English Intensive Centre. That has grown to over 160, with more expected in the years to come.
